I NEED HELP WITH MY SICK KITTEN

I am desperate and have already gone to AIP's blog site to see if anyone can help me because I really don't get that many readers. I have a very sick little bitty kitten. My Oreo is very sick with a fever and chilling. He won't get up to eat or drink. He is very tired. I read on the internet to give them Pedialyte 2 tsp every 2 hours but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I would greatly appreciate it. He feels very hot and his heart is beating so fast.

I really don't want to lose another cat so if anyone can help me, maybe you have been in the same situation and the vet suggested something or you know of something, PLEASE LET ME KNOW... We all would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you

Mama Bear

No milk products at all at this time (it will just curdle in their stomach). Pedialyte 2 tsp with a dropper.

Thanks to all of you for your well wishes and advise. I tried the pedialyte.

Alipurr, I tried calling the local vet but they said they cant give advise that I had to come in and pay them 79.00 up front and then whatever else they had to do. I just really can't afford that since we are on a fixed income, very very low income. I will probably try another vet tomorrow morning, hopefully they will help or someone will have some FREE advise for me. We are so worried about this kitten.

We really appreciate anyone's help or kind words.

The pedialyte is good but must be given a little every twenty minuets - the main thing that does sick little ones in is dehydration. If they can get over the fever they have a fighting chance.
I didn't have a cat but my dog years ago was just jumping around and all of a sudden dropped over dead - I thought she had a heart attack - she was pretty old - I had to get my son to the bus so laid her in a box outside till I could get back to her - well she was alive when I returned. I made a broth from hamburger meat and gave her a teaspoon or two every fifteen minuets or so for all that day into the night and by the next day she was up to drinking some herself. Maybe a weak broth for strength and liquid may help the kitty. Good luck. It is hard to just not know what to do - have you tried the Humain Society? Maybe they could give you some advice.

I am back - if the kitty made it through the night you have to make sure that it's bowls are moving - the second thing that kills kittens is their bowls not moving. If the old gently rubbing it's bottom with a damp tissue doesn't work you can very gently use a child's supoitory - just the very tip. I would try the hamburger broth and pedialyte to keep it hydrated. Good luck.

I'm sorry I can't be of any help but I had to come over to tell you I hope that the kitten can be saved! I do hope you can get a vet to help you for free over the phone and give suggestions...that would be the best way to get advice on what to do. I had cats all the time while growing up but I don't remember any of them being sick while kittens. I'll be coming back to visit you to see how things are going. Good luck!!

Thank you everyone for your sincere concern for our little Oreo.

I have so many nice and thoughtful friends and family members that I know!!!! I just wanted to share some stories of how some tried to help and an update on Oreo.......

As you know Sandy (AIP) tried to help by posting about Oreo on her blog site. Not to mention giving the name and number of her vet to call last night. The vet she uses was out so I called the one on call. Thank you Sandy for her help I really appreciate it.

Then this morning I called our good neighbor, Paige and asked her about what she thought I should do because she has several dogs and cats and has given me advise in the past and suggests who to call for help that won't charge an arm and a leg. She called a Humane Society for me and they said it sounded like he had an ear infection. They said an antibiotic would probably help. So... being the nicest neighbor anyone could want.. Paige brought me over some antibiotic liquid she had for kittens. She offered to get it refilled if I needed more too. She also gave us some anitbiotic eyedrops for our other kitty whose eyes seem to be running a lot. She offered to help pay for a vet visit if I wanted to take him to a vet!!! Can you beleive that?!!!!! Of course, I said no. I couldnt dare do that, but I thought of how nice she was and how generous she was. I am so grateful that I have such a good neighbor like her. She is always there to help if you need her. They are all very, very sweet people.

I had also called our family members Peanut and Laura since they are big cat lovers like us but they wasnt sure what to tell me. They were kind enough to search for some antibiotics that they thought they might have laying around but couldn't find any. I am also greatful for family members like this. They are so sweet and also will help in any way they can.

And I have good news, at lest I think is good news, OREO ATE A FEW BITES of tuna a while ago and got up to go to the bathroom. He is still wobbly and tired and seems to be in pain but at least he is up eating and I don't think he is running a temperature at the time. Every now and then he feels hot and shivers.

Any more advise would be great if anyone has any.

And a big Thank YOu goes out to all who helped or tried to help or just stopped in to show their support and concern. We really appreciate it.

I'm so glad to hear a little better news.

I know what you mean about the vet. We manage to get our cats altered but that's the best we can do.

Strays have a way of turning up at our door as well.
